SSATB with Rhythm Section – Lv. 3

This solo feature was written for Mt. Si High School’s Vocal Jazz 1, Noteworthy. The Bb blues format and relaxed tempo makes for a simple rhythm section experience, while still capturing that Count Basie energy and feel.

The soloist tells the story of how they were wronged and cheated, as if they are speaking directly to their previous partner. Instead of taking the high road and brushing it off, they sing about the past and their regrets. The choir backs them up to lead into a powerful, “big-band” style shout chorus, finishing off with the same crunchy chords we hear in the intro.
